SAVE My State Parks
SUPPORT | ADVOCATE | VOLUNTEER | EXPLORE
As the economic situation in Georgia has worsened, our legislators have been required to the trim state funding for most state agencies. Funding for Georgia State Parks & Historic Sites has been dramatically reduced over the past two years resulting in service limitations, layoffs, delayed maintenance and many other reductions.
Many sites are surviving with less than adequate staffing through the help of volunteers and supporters like you! Without the help of volunteers from across the site, many of Georgia's treasures would be in an even worse situation. You can (and do) make a difference!
Save My State Parks is an effort sponsored by Friends of Georgia State Parks & Historic Sites that invites Georgians to help ensure these sites will be available for generations to come. Closure of sites or certain parts thereof is still a very real possibility.
Support - Sites need support now, more than ever. Just visiting these amazing places can be a huge benefit. But there is more you can do! Show and communicate your support with family, friends and neighbors. Let people know you care!
Advocate - The elected officials of our state and local communities need to know how important the parks are to you. Parks and historic sites are economic engines in their respective communities generating much-needed tourism revenue. Help spread the word!
Volunteer - You don't need special skills or lots of time to help. There are many things you and your family can do to help keep our state parks and historic sites in great shape. Whether you become a full-time volunteer helping at a museum or just take a trash bag with you the next time you go hiking, you are helping out in a meaningful way!
Explore - How many parks and historic sites have you visited? There are 63 in total! From swaying spanish moss near a plantation home to the largest cascading waterfall east of the Mississippi River, there's lots to see! Go exploring. You never know what you might find!
